About me

I’m Matthew, the founder of RV Folks. I build the website, write the guides and make the calculators. It’s a one-person project, run from a small desk with a coffee and a map always open.

I started RV Folks because most RV advice is either too technical or too vague when you’re planning your first trip. I wanted guides that explain things the way a friend at the next campsite would: short, clear and in the right order.

By the way, “Matthew Raven” is the English version of my name. At home I’m Matěj Havránek. Matěj is Matthew, and Havránek comes from the Czech word for raven.

My RV background

My family has been RVing for years, and most of what you read here starts with them: our trips, our mistakes and the questions that come up around the campsite table. I take what we’ve learned, check the details and turn it into clear, step-by-step guides.

Here’s what goes into every guide I write:

  • Years of family trips on the road
  • Hands-on experience with setup, tanks, towing and winterizing
  • Tips and tricks our family actually uses
  • Clear, practical steps, no fluff, no hype

Beyond the road

When I’m not planning trips or writing, you’ll usually find me at the gym. Training is how I clear my head after a long day at the desk, and a good set of reps often sorts out an article idea better than another coffee.
