Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information RV Folks collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to rvfolks.com, our newsletter and our contact form.
1. Who we are
RV Folks (rvfolks.com) is operated by Matěj Havránek, who publishes under the name Matthew Raven. He is a self-employed individual registered in the Czech Republic, business ID (IČO) 21061637, with a business address at Nová 438/16, 664 48 Moravany.
For data protection purposes, we are the “controller” of the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at contact@rvfolks.com.
RV Folks is written for readers in the United States. Because we operate from the Czech Republic, we also follow the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and we apply the same privacy rights to all visitors, wherever they live.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us
- Newsletter signup. Your email address, plus the date and the page where you signed up, so we can show that you asked to subscribe.
- Contact form and emails. Your name (optional), your email address, the topic you choose and the message you write.
We don’t sell anything directly, so we never ask for payment details. Please don’t include sensitive information (such as financial or health details) in your messages.
2.2 Information collected automatically
When you visit RV Folks, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information in its server logs:
- Device and browser data. Browser type, operating system and language setting.
- Requests. The pages you ask for, the time, and the page you came from (for example a Facebook post or a search result).
- IP address and approximate location. Your IP address, and your country or region worked out from it. We don’t collect precise location.
We use this only to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix errors. We don’t currently run analytics or advertising tools on RV Folks.
The numbers you enter into our calculators are processed in your browser and are not sent to us.
2.3 Information from other sources
If you interact with our Facebook Page, Meta gives us aggregated statistics about it (see Section 9).
3. How we use your information
We use personal information only for the purposes below. For visitors covered by the GDPR, the legal basis is shown in brackets.
- To send the newsletter. (Your consent.)
- To answer your messages. (Our legitimate interest in replying to you, or steps you ask us to take.)
- To deliver the site and keep it secure. This covers the server logs described in Section 2.2 and protection against abuse. (Our legitimate interest.)
- To meet legal and accounting obligations. (Legal obligation.)
We don’t make automated decisions that significantly affect you, and we don’t sell your personal information for money. If we add analytics or advertising in the future, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
4. Newsletter and emails
4.1 What we send
When you subscribe, we send RV guides, tips and tools. Most emails are new articles. When we have nothing new, we may send an older article from our archive. We may also send an occasional site announcement.
There is no fixed schedule. Expect up to about 10 emails a month.
Our emails link to articles on rvfolks.com. We don’t put affiliate links directly in our emails. Any affiliate links are on the website and are marked as described in our Affiliate Disclosure.
4.2 How to unsubscribe
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you’re off the list. You can also email contact@rvfolks.com and ask us to remove you.
After you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a “do not email” list, so we don’t email you again by mistake.
4.3 Email provider and confirmation
We use a third-party email service provider to store subscriber addresses and send emails for us. It may ask you to confirm your subscription by clicking a link in a confirmation email. The provider may only use your information to work for us. Each email includes our contact details, as the law requires.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We do not currently use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies on RV Folks.
The site keeps one small item in your browser session: your scroll position, so a reloaded page stays where you were. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and is deleted when you close the tab. It is strictly necessary for that feature, so it does not need your consent.
If we add analytics or advertising in the future, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it, give you a way to change your choice at any time, and update this policy first.
You can always block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings.
6. Advertising
RV Folks does not currently show ads. If we add them in the future, we will say so here before they go live. We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted advertising.
7. Affiliate links
Some articles may contain affiliate links. When you click one, the retailer or affiliate network may set a cookie to record that you came from RV Folks, so we can be credited if you buy. They collect information under their own privacy policies.
We don’t receive your name, your payment details or what you bought. We only receive reports showing the commission we earned. Read more in our Affiliate Disclosure.
8. Third-party services
We use a small number of companies to run RV Folks. We share with them only the information they need to do their job.
- Hosting and delivery. Vercel Inc. hosts rvfolks.com and delivers it through a global network. It processes IP addresses and request logs.
- Email. Our email service provider (see Section 4.3).
- Contact form and spam protection. Services that deliver form messages to our inbox and filter out spam.
- Affiliate programs. Retailers and affiliate networks, once you click one of their links (see Section 7).
- Embedded content. Some pages may show content from sites such as Facebook or YouTube. These sites may set their own cookies when you interact with that content.
Each of these companies handles information under its own privacy policy. When we choose a provider, we look for one that protects personal information appropriately.
9. Our Facebook Page and community
RV Folks has a Page on Facebook, where we share tips, memes and updates. When you visit our Page or interact with it, for example by following it, reacting, commenting or sending a message, Meta processes your information under its own Data Policy and terms.
- Page insights. Meta gives us aggregated statistics about visitors and engagement. We can’t identify individuals from them. Under EU data protection law, we and Meta are joint controllers for this statistics processing, and Meta is responsible for most of the obligations connected with it.
- What you post. Comments and messages are subject to Facebook’s terms and your Facebook privacy settings. We can see and respond to them, and we may hide or delete comments or block people who break our community rules.
- Messages. If you message our Page, Meta processes the conversation and we can read it. For privacy requests, please email us instead, so we can verify and handle them properly.
We don’t control how Meta uses your information. See Meta’s privacy information for details.
10. How we share information
We share personal information only in these situations:
- With service providers who work for us (see Section 8).
- When the law requires it, for example in response to a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety or property of RV Folks, our visitors or others.
- In a business change. If RV Folks is sold or transferred, your information may go to the new owner, who must respect this policy.
- In aggregated or de-identified form that can’t identify you.
We never sell or rent your email address or your messages.
11. How long we keep information
- Newsletter subscribers. Your email address while you stay subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep only your email address and the date you opted out, so we can honor your request.
- Contact messages. Up to 24 months after our last message to you, unless we need to keep them longer to resolve a dispute or meet a legal duty.
- Server logs. For short periods set by our hosting provider.
- Business and tax records. For as long as Czech law requires. These records generally don’t contain visitors’ personal information.
When we no longer need information, we delete or anonymize it.
12. Where your information is processed
We are based in the Czech Republic, in the European Union. Our service providers may process information in the United States, the EU and other countries. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards for these transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or a provider’s participation in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
13. Your rights and choices
13.1 Rights for everyone
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Access. Tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy.
- Correct. Fix information that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete. Erase your personal information.
- Restrict or object. Limit how we use your information or stop certain uses.
- Port. Give you your information in a common, portable format.
- Withdraw consent. Stop processing that is based on your consent. This doesn’t affect what we did before.
13.2 US state privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Utah or Virginia), you may also have the right to:
- Know and access the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect.
- Correct and delete your personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising. We do neither, so there is nothing to opt out of.
- Not be treated unfairly for using your rights.
- Appeal if we decline a request. If we do, we’ll explain how to appeal.
We collect these categories of personal information: identifiers (such as your email address and IP address), internet and device activity, approximate location, and the contents of messages you send us. Our hosting provider collects identifiers and internet activity in its server logs, as described in Section 2.2.
We don’t knowingly collect sensitive personal information as defined by US state laws. We don’t knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. We honor these requests whether or not a particular state law applies to us.
13.3 Visitors in the EU, EEA and UK
Our legal bases are listed in Section 3. If you believe we have handled your information unlawfully, you can complain to your local data protection authority. Ours is the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů), Pplk. Sochora 27, 170 00 Prague 7, Czech Republic, uoou.cz. We’d appreciate the chance to fix the problem first.
13.4 How to make a request
Email contact@rvfolks.com with the subject “Privacy request” and tell us what you’d like. To protect your information, we may ask you to confirm that you control the email address involved. We won’t ask for more than we need. You can also use an authorized agent, but we may ask for proof that you’ve authorized them.
We’ll respond within the time the law requires, generally 30 to 45 days. There’s no charge unless a request is clearly excessive.
14. Children’s privacy
RV Folks is not directed to children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
15. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, such as encrypted connections (HTTPS) and limited access. No website or email system is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
16. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Browsers can send a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. RV Folks doesn’t currently track you across sites or share your information for advertising, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off. If that changes, we will honor GPC signals as an opt-out request.
17. Links to other sites
RV Folks links to other websites, such as retailers, campgrounds and Facebook. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their privacy practices. Please read their policies.
18. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make an important change, we’ll notify subscribers by email or put a notice on the site.
